In the first week after starting my blog at College I produced lots of experimental samples using various techniques such as; stencil printing, etching, mixed media drawings and machine embroidery. In lesson we were introduced to the technique Slashing, which involves creating a new surface out of remnants and was origionaly used for making quilts. I did really injoy the technique and feel that it relates well to my projcet breif and the idea of ripping things appart and putting them back together again.
I have arranged a trip to Manchester Art Gallery to explore their ‘And Breathe’ Exhibition which explores the relationship between art and mindfulness, i am excited to see what they have to offer at this exhibition and to tell you about my experience.
On another note ive been thinking a lot about my final outcome for my current project and I have had an idea to create a collection of cermaic teddy bears and decorte them with my mixed media drawings of toys. I do however have to enquire with my tutor about using the cermaics studio as i am a fashion textile students but I am sure it won’t be a problem. To initially experiment with 3D form I created strips of drawings, folded them into a cylinder shapes and photographed them. I really liked the outcome of them, eventhough they were only quick drawings that i used.
Thanks for listening,
Mia.

Gallery/Museum Trips
How many museums can one student visit in a week? Well I managed to cram in FIVE museum trips in THREE of our most loved cities: London, Manchester and York!
The V&A Museum, in London, was the first on my trip list. This day out was organised by college and I loved getting out of the art studio to delve into the history of art at this incredible museum. I was gutted that I couldn’t get a ticket to the Frida Kahlo exhibition but my wages were well spent in the gift shop on her merchandise.
Manchester was up next, where I visited the Manchester City Art Gallery – on a day trip with one of my Grandmas! I especially enjoyed the ‘And Breathe…..’ exhibition, which explored the link between mindfulness and art and how taking the time out in our hectic lives can improve mental health and well-being!
Finally ….. the beautiful city of York! Anther day trip out, this time with my dad and sister. I I managed to squeeze in the Railway Museum, York Museum and The York Art Gallery – and of course a bit of shopping!
A busy and inspiring weeek!
